What is the Hero Artist Scholarship Foundation?
The foundation was created in memory of Brian Tha Saechao, a former IMSC Chairperson, community advocate, and talented artist. The mission of the Hero Artist Scholarship Foundation is to provide an incentive for the Mien students who are creative and wish to thrive as artists or entertainers to pursue post-secondary education.

How do I apply for the Hero Artist Scholarship?
An application is available each school year on our website. If you are at that time a high school senior with at least a 2.0 GPA, have one biological parent who is Mien, and will attend a post-secondary school, you are eligible to apply. You must submit your art/entertainment work sample, community service certificate, and high school transcript.

Can I mail in a paper application or apply online?
Currently, we only accept completed application packets through the mail.

When is the deadline to submit the application?
Each year the deadline is different. For the 2014-2015 school year, the deadline is May 30, 2015.

Is the scholarship need-based?
No, the Hero Artist Scholarship is achievement-based.

How can the scholarship be used?
The cash reward can be used at the recipient's leisure, after the Foundation has confirmed that he or she has been enrolled in a post-secondary school.

Who can apply?
Presently, only high school seniors who have at least one biological Mien parent can apply. They can reside anywhere within the United States of America.

The community service project can be as grand as helping out Habitat for Humanity to build a house or volunteering after school.

A work sample can be an embroidery, drawing, dance video, construction, video editing, and etc.

What does the Hero Artist Scholarship Foundation look for when selecting recipients?
We are looking for individuals who embody the meaning of being a Hero Artist. It is someone who is talented artistically and has a conscience for their community—demonstrating a sustained commitment to bettering their community.
